Bowen Injury Update
The good news following hospital x-rays is that Luke Bowen escaped without any breaks in his Heat 1 fall last night, but has suffered severe bruising of the shoulder and hand, and ligament and muscle damage. It is still too early to confirm the seriousness of the injury, or how long the Bowen 747 will be out of action, but he is already organising physiotherapy treatment sessions. A clearer picture should emerge around the middle of the week, as the swelling starts to go down.
No-Go For Cobras
Boston vs Rye House: postponed
(Conference League, Sunday, April 20th)
Overnight rain and continuous showers on Sunday morning led to the early call-off of the Kart Racing Cobras’ first scheduled League fixture of the season. A new date has yet to be announced.
Rye Provide Four in U-21 Final
Rye House riders will represent a quarter of the field for Friday’s British U-21 Final at Lakeside. Lee Strudwick and Danny Halsey both finished in the top three in last Saturday’s qualifying round at Weymouth, to join Danny Betson and 2007 bronze winner Tai Woffinden in the last sixteen.
Woffinden is seeded to the Final, alongside former Rockets Steve Boxall and Adam Roynon, plus Lewis Bridger, Ben Barker, William Lawson and Josh Auty.
The three qualifiers from the Boston round are Joe Haines, Sean Stoddart and Charles Wright.
Harland Cook, Danny Betson and Jack Roberts made it through from the rain-shortened Plymouth qualifier, while Lee Strudwick and Danny Halsey were joined on the rostrum at Weymouth by round winner Lee Smart.
The top two riders after the main twenty heats will qualify for the grand final, with the riders finishing third through sixth meeting in a last chance race to determine the two other qualifiers.
Full draw (in riding order):
1. Lee Strudwick, 2. Lee Smart, 3. Sean Stoddart, 4. Ben Barker, 5. Charles Wright,
6. Tai Woffinden, 7. Danny Betson, 8. Steve Boxall, 9. Joe Haines, 10. Adam Roynon,
11. William Lawson, 12. Lewis Bridger, 13. Harland Cook, 14, Jack Roberts, 15. Danny Halsey,
16. Josh Auty.
Reserves: Andrew Tully, Kyle Hughes, Gareth Isherwood.
Next in Town: Newport
The Silver Ski Rockets turn their attention to this season’s Knock-Out Cup, with a first round visit from Newport this Saturday (April 26th). The Wasps are yet to really kick-start their season, with a lone Premier Trophy win against the Isle of Wight, and home defeats against Reading and Somerset, but they have also run the Islanders close, 46-43, at Smallbrook.
Craig Watson, the former World Championship Finalist and Champions Chase winner, has made a welcome return to Wales this year after a season’s absence, with heat leader support coming from Polish stars Sebastian Truminski and Marek Mroz. Former Reading and Stoke man Paul Clews (who recently top-scored with 16 at Berwick) and Tony Atkin are the middle order men, although the latter is currently sidelined with a broken ankle, and Rider-Replacement will operate as cover. Testimonial recipient Nick Simmons and highly rated prospect (and brief 2007 Elmside Raider) Jerran Hart fill the reserve slots.
Next Saturday’s match will be the first leg of the tie, with the aggregate result due to be quickly settled the following afternoon in Gwent. |
