Injury hits Rockets
A blow to the Silver Ski Rockets' future team performances arrived today (Wednesday 9th April) with the news that Swedish star, Stefan Ekberg, who fell during last week's victory over Birmingham, has discovered severe damage to one of the ligaments of his thumb which has been encased in plaster by his local Swedish doctor. He will be an absentee for the home match against Isle of Wight this Saturday (April 12th) and for the visit to Mildenhall the following day. At present it is not known how long the injury will take to mend. In the meantime the Rockets will use the Rider Replacement rule to cover for his absence which means that every other team member, except Tai Woffinden, can take one his scheduled rides. Team manager, John Sampford believes that there is enough scoring power in the rest of the team to be able to provide good cover, but admits that if the injury turns out to be long term then he might have to re-think the solution.
Saturday's match at Rye House will give fans the chance to see for the first time Islander's newest acquisition, James Holder, brother of Chris who has moved to Elite League Poole, Also the latest Rye House Conference teamster Andrew Aldridge from New Zealand makes his U.K debut during the second half of Saturday's meeting. |
